Last night seen a first ever Champions League final derby as Athletico Madrid take on Real Madrid in Lisbon, Portugal.
Expectations were high after Athletico becoming league champions last week as they only needed a point over Barcelona. It was touch and go for Diego Costa as he pulled up in the last league game and looked to be ruled out of the final. Costa broke into the headlines that day with a shock start in the first 11 but it wasn’t longed lived as he was forced off again in the 9th minute.
Both sides started strong but it was Athletico Madrid who took the lead with a 36 minute final from Godin. Second half seen Real Madrid throw everything at Athletico but they managed to hold off until the 3rd minute of the 5 extra that Sergio Ramos headed in a stunning goal from 9 yards out to beat courtois.
Extra time seen Real Madrid continue to back Athletico into the ropes as they looked worn out as Real created chances after chances until Di Maria skins 3 Athletico players, shots and a save bounces up in the air to find the head of Gareth Bale to place in the top corner. Hearts were broken and Athletico had nothing left but Real continued to dominate and a burst through Marcelo seen a top goal keeper unabled to keep the shot out.
To add salt to the wounds, a lat minute foul on Cristiano Ronaldo inside the box to give Real a penalty, Ronaldo steps up and deals the victory for Real Madrid. Risk Everything!
