As the World Cup draws closer we look at the past players you graced our screens in past World Cup tournaments.

Rivaldo – World Cup dive
One of the shocking moments in the World Cup 2002 – Rivaldo was one of the greatest players of this era and for him to drop and hold his head after being passed the ball made him slip down the chart.

Michael Owen – World Cup Debut
Owen had a fantastic start to his career and when he was called up for the World Cup in 1998. Owen first played for the senior England team in 1998, becoming England’s youngest player and youngest goalscorer at the time.

Zinedine Zidane – World Cup Head Butt
One of the greatest players of his time, controlling the middle of the park throughout his playing career and now a coach a Real Madrid it’s hard to believe this player had a moment of madness in the World Cup Final 2006 . A provoked attack, seen red? We will never know but it was the talk of the football world for years to come.

Diego Maradona – World Cup 1986 Hand Of God
Older generations will remember this moment as it’s one of the reasons football has become an anti cheating game, with state of the art technology I doubt this would have been allowed in today’s game. Maradona jump for a crossed ball, one on one with the keeper and out jumped his (so we thought) to score a fantastic goal. Replays show a different side, smartly done and well executed, Diego will always carry the “Hand Of God” status

Dennis Bergkamp – Wonder Goal
On 4 July 1998 the Dutch forward took three divine touches, scored the perfect goal and sent Holland into the semi-finals. Bergkamp has a talent for cheeky moves that only the coolest players could ever pull off, his finishing devastated a lot of team in the would cup and in the premier league at his time with Arsenal FC.
